Pusarla Venkata Sindhu [ PV Sindhu ] was born and brought up in Hyderabad, India to Pv Ramana and P.Vijaya.
Her father Ramana, is an employee of the Indian Railways was born in Nirmal, Telangana while her mother Vijaya hails from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Both her parents were national-level Volleyball players.
Sindhu’s father, Ramana, a member of the Indian volleyball team that won the bronze medal in 1986 at the Seoul Asian Games, received the Arjuna Award in 2000 to contribute to the sports.
She lives in Hyderabad, Telangana. Sindhu was educated at Auxilium High School in Hyderabad and St. Ann’s College for Women, Hyderabad.
She chose badminton because Sindhu drew inspiration from the success of Pullela Gopichand.

- Sindhu first learned the basics of the sport with the guidance of Mehboob Ali at the badminton courts of the Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications in Secunderabad, Hyderabad. Soon after, PV joined Pullela Gopichand’s Gopichand Badminton Academy.
- PV Sindhu entered the international circuit at the young age of 14. PV was a bronze medallist at the 2009 Sub-Junior Asian Badminton Championships held in Colombo. In 2010 she won the silver medal in the singles category Iran Fajr International Badminton Challenge.
- In July 2013, Pusarla Venkata Sindhu has been employed with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) as an Assistant Sports Manager in Hyderabad. In 2016, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) promoted her to Deputy Sports Manager, after winning a silver medal.
